For a civil Europe in peace and freedom

The common goal of preserving peace and freedom
was formulated and proclaimed by the EGS as a declaration at the EST 2018 in Leudal, Netherlands, which brought people from different countries together. At that time, hardly anyone could have imagined that peace in Europe could be so fragile.
The war in Ukraine is a flagrant violation of international law.
The EGS is deeply committed to its Ukrainian friends and stands by them in brotherly solidarity.

Providing effective help, even without large aid organisations
Just a few days after the war began (24 February 2022), the first aid convoy was organised via Krakow to Ukraine.
Under the direction of General Secretary Peter-Olaf Hoffman, a support network was created consisting of Polish shooters, Ukrainian Cossacks and the German Shooters’ Aid Organisation in conjunction with private aid groups, civic foundations and the city of Dormagen.
Since then, this network has been tirelessly organising regular aid convoys from Dormagen to Poland and on to Ukraine.
Every month, an 18-tonne truck travels to Zabierzow near Krakow or to Poznan, where the Polish EGS shooters organise onward transport to Ukraine. Ukrainian Cossacks, who are also members of the EGS, then take over the distribution of the relief supplies on site.
- In addition to food, tea and medical supplies, hundreds of walkers, wheelchairs and walking aids for wounded soldiers, as well as cars, ambulances and fire engines, have been organised.
For this joint, consistent and active endeavour (exemplary European commitment), the EGS was awarded the title of ‘Europaaktive Zivilgesellschaft’ (Europe-active civil society) by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia.
