Regional Assembly in Medebach

Successful Regional Assembly

On 11 January 2025, the Regional Assembly of Region 1 of the European Community of Historic Guilds (EGS) took place in the Schützenhalle Medebach. Numerous representatives from the member associations came together for this special occasion.

The event began with a solemn service in St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Medebach, which was attended by all participants.

After the usual formalities of the association, important elections were the focus of the agenda. Regional President Bernhard Adams, who did not stand for re-election, looked back on a successful term of office. In his speech, he emphasised how much he had enjoyed the past years, especially the many encounters and experiences he had been able to enjoy during this time. Finally, he thanked all those who had accompanied him on his journey for their support.

Friedhelm Pauen, former regional secretary of Region 1 of the EGS, ran for the office of regional president. The assembly unanimously elected him to this important office. Wolfram Schmitz, federal managing director of the Sauerland Shooting Association, was nominated for the now vacant position of regional secretary and was also unanimously elected.

In addition, the spokespersons for customs and media, Sven Wottrich and Karl-Heinz Bursmeier, were confirmed in their positions.

A special highlight of the meeting was the honouring of Member of the European Parliament Dr Peter Liese (CDU). He was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit for his outstanding commitment in the European Parliament to preventing a ban on lead for traditional and sport shooters. It is thanks to him and the chairman of the shooting commission, Walter Finke, that the ban on lead was averted. Walter Finke was also awarded the Silver Cross of Merit at the EST in Mondsee. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the use of lead ammunition in traditional bird shooting remains permitted.

In addition to the elections and honours, the new social commitment of Region 1 was also presented.

Over the next three years (2025, 2026 and 2027), Region 1 of the EGS will support the Fruchtalarm society as a charitable project. The society, which supports children with cancer, will receive an annual donation of 3,000 euros. This support is intended to help further the valuable work of the society and bring a little joy to the families affected. The announcement was met with great approval and once again demonstrates the EGS’s sense of social responsibility.

The Regional Assembly ended with a positive outlook for the future and once again underlined the importance of traditional marksmen’s associations in Europe.
