Charitable activities & projects

Many can achieve a lot...
The responsibility to give something back and make a difference is recognised at all organisational levels within the fraternities, districts, dioceses and associations. As a result, there is virtually no fraternity within our association that does not support at least one, and in most cases several, charitable projects.
The activities and campaigns of this cross-border initiative are managed by the Social Welfare Organisation of the Knighthood, which is overseen by our Social Officer Holger Willies. He uses strict criteria to select projects, determine their exact support needs and identify funding opportunities. He also makes recommendations to the plenary assembly regarding support payments for social projects in the regions/commanderies.
This ensures that the support goes where it is needed. Together with the regional secretaries of the five EGS regions, the organisation of donations then begins in a targeted manner.
Social Officer | Almosenier

The Almosenier of the Knighthood and Social Officer of the EGS oversees the social work of the Knighthood.
His main task is to review projects
worthy of support.

Our flagship project

missio - Internationales Katholisches Missionswerk e.V.
EGS is taking on a three-year program of training sponsorships in Africa
The training costs for a priest or nun amount to €3,000 per year.
What makes this form of support special is that the EGS is in direct contact with the prospective priests and future nuns. They introduce themselves personally with a CV and letters.
The EGS supports them with an annual donation of €3,000.
Our ongoing project EST
Donations for charitable causes are collected between European shooting meetings over the years, amounting to €10,000, which is then topped up by the regions and used for the donation projects of the EST organiser.
Support for social and charitable organisations in individual regions/Komtureien
The amounts remaining from the contributions made by the Knights in the regions, plus additional donations and support payments, will be used for this purpose.

Fruchtalarm society
Every week, we hold cocktail parties in children’s cancer wards and children’s and youth hospices throughout Germany.
Why do we do this?
We bring joy and optimism – because that is the most important thing we can give seriously ill children and young people. - where support is needed (patient is bedridden, medical/nursing care is required)
- wishes that cannot be fulfilled independently as a private individual
The journey with one of the ‘rolling angels’ takes place in a vehicle that is perfectly adapted to the needs of the guests. The journey is accompanied on a voluntary basis by paramedics, qualified nursing staff and doctors.

DEBRA Austria - butterfly children
From a self-help group (since 1995) to a patient organisation
The goal: competent medical care for butterfly children
- A special clinic, ‘EB-Haus Austria’ in Salzburg, with targeted, first-class research to increase the chances of a cure and improve quality of life
- Immediate help for those affected and their families
‘Butterfly children’ is the name given to people with the rare skin disease epidermolysis bullosa (EB), because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly.
In Austria, around 500 people suffer from this congenital and currently incurable skin disease.
